Blackwoods Campground Review | Acadia National Park | Camping

Updated: Aug 23

This is the way to go to really experience Acadia! Blackwoods Campground is on Mount Desert Island, a few minute drive from Bar Harbor. This campground had trails that lead to the ocean and several mountains as well!

We took Callie The Camper up to Acadia National Park on Memorial Day Weekend 2022. We were able to choose our site ahead of time, and because we were going to be boondocking, there are no hookups at this campground. I made sure we were right next to the bathroom house for our kid's sake. Callie was parked on site A43.

My first impressions were that it was a beautiful campground with lots of trees surrounding it. It seemed clean and well maintained. It was very quiet, even in the middle of the day.

Each campsite is equipped with a fire pit (and grill attachment) and a picnic table. We were also parked right next to the dumpster which was well taken care of. At the bathrooms there was a dish water dumping pit and a trash can (both were well maintained). There are no showers at this campsite, however there are private businesses right outside of the campsite that offers "hot showers" (they are cash only).

A few downfalls of Blackwoods campground that we noticed was that the bathrooms didn't have any hand soap in them. We found that odd. The boys also informed me that the men's bathroom wasn't clean. Also the sites are very close together. There are trees separating the sites but there isn't a whole lot of privacy for the camper sites Tent sites however had lots of privacy!

Despite not having any hookups, Blackwoods does offer a dumping station that is easy to use.

There are no bells and whistles to this campground, but I'm sure if you are visiting Acadia National Park you aren't planning to spend a whole lot of time at the campsite.

Cell service was pretty spotty throughout the park but we did find some service at our campsite.

Overall we loved it and we will definitely be back!
